The rooms at House of Waine are big, and just a few.

Only 11( nine double or twin, two single or twin), on two floors. Two double rooms adjoin to make a family room and there's an even larger suite. House of Waine's owner, Eric calls his rooms comfortable because he doesn't want people to expect too much. We'd call them luxurious. He knows his sheets are high thread count, sateen Egyptian cotton. The beds are huge, and the suite inevitably has a huge corner bath. Wide concrete verandahs looking front or back. The decor finish is excellent, not a common feature of Kenya.

Rooms at House of Waine have mini bars, telephone room service, satellite TVs, fresh flowers, and all the bits you need to make yourself an expensive cup of coffee or tea.

The style of the place is mainly international. Much of the stuff is imported, and anything local still has a modern feel. They also have free unlimited internet connections in all the rooms and they'll even let you borrow a laptop. Sometimes, the connection goes down though, they say. This is Africa after all.

House of Waine Nairobi is, as most hotels aimed at the safari market, mainly a bed and breakfast place.

Usually visitors with arrive from late flights and are off early on safari in the morning. But they also provide a la carte lunch and dinner - either by the heated pool in the garden, or in the more formal dining room. The whole hotel is non smoking throughout, so smokers often choose to drink or dine outside.
