Il Moran is top of the range in the Governor's group of Mara properties. Il Moran has a dramatic location on a deep bend of the Mara River. It's set in what's known as the Governors Area in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve because they have four establishments there.

This beautiful part of the Maasai Mara National Reserve is also known as Bila Shaka in Swahili which means "no doubt" -

two possibilities why, either because in the rainy season you're almost bound to get stuck in the marsh which is nearby, or because of the abundant game that you're bound to run into. At Il Moran that's not all you're bound to run into, it's such a popular area it gives the Mara a "spoilt" reputation spoilt - safari vehicles can gather like the great herds - sometimes up to thirty strong around a single animal.

There are even some celeb lions in this part of the Mara, The Marsh Pride from BBC's Big Cat Diaries. The pride is now only about ten individuals, from what used to be a huge pride of 23. Presumably the rest have gone to Hollywood.

There are still plenty of reasons to come To Il Moran;

archetypal African beauty - big skies, stands of tall Dr Seuss like trees - and fantastic game, but be aware this is unlikely to be an exclusive experience.
