The rooms at Lewa Wilderness Trails, Lewa are self contained in the form of eight cottages scattered around the gardens of the main house.

They have recently built five new rooms here. The original cottages are at best unpretentious, but in a more cynical light, could be seen as badly in need of some attention; basically they're dark and rather scruffy. The new rooms do have superb views and they're comfortable and more spacious than the old cottages, but even these are quite dark inside and a little lacklustre.

We are great advocates of lodges that don't go over the top, so it's a little difficult not to sound hypocritical when describing Lewa Wilderness Trails,

but there's a gulf between the old and the new rooms that isn't reflected in the price and it isn't always possible to request a new room. It has to be said that despite this slight negative first impression, there is a genuine charm to Lewa Wilderness Trails and the atmosphere in and around the lodge is great; very relaxed and warm. They pour a generous drink here so beware…
