Macushla is small and intimate with only six rooms of varying shapes and sizes.

The sheer volume of “things” adorning the interiors makes them feel a little hectic, and some are a little on the dark side, but at least there's plenty to look at. Overall, when you consider the cost of Macushla, this place is very good value.

Owner Carolyn Henkel and her partner Grant Hillacre-Richards are very much part of the scene at Macushla,

but they don't go as far as “actively” hosting you, so you'll be left in peace and quiet if you don't feel like socialising. The staff do a great job and are a good mixture of friendly and discrete.

While you're at Macushla its worth wandering around the grounds.

The immediate area of the terrace and (unheated) swimming pool feels quite small, but around the side of the pool is a raised walk way that leads up to a small gazebo, from which the views are a breath of fresh air. Ask nicely and you'll have drinks brought up here in the evening.
