When Sue tells you that her son Jan designed and built every last structure - decks that curve in amongst the craggy rocks that the camp is built on, and most significantly the tents themselves, you can't help but be impressed. When you hear that it took him just 2 months you really start to feel quite inadequate.![]() These tents are cool, seriously well decorated and uncluttered.Above all they're very comfortable to stay in, with huge seven foot by seven foot beds, wooden floors and furniture chosen by a very good eye. Sue calls them her Nina tents, and when she explains why, it once again it serves as a light hearted reminder of the fact that this is at its core a bush home. Apparently Jan designed these tents just after Sue's grand daughter Nina was born - the shape of the awning reminded them all of her smile, and Jan used one of Nina's nappies stretched over a candle for the prototype model of the tent.![]() Bathrooms are, of course ensuite, flush loos, good showers and plenty of space to wander aboutgetting changed, but you do need to be aware that Ol Seki is in a fragile part of the Mara. Water is a scarce commodity here and most of it has to come on an 80 kilometre schlep. This isn't somewhere it would be appropriate to luxuriate under 10 minute power showers and they do have a deliberate reduced flow here, so if you don't think this is for you, it's probably best to be aware of this before you get here.![]() The main mess and dining tents at Ol Seki are the same (Nina) style as the bed tents.Again they're beautifully put together and scattered with interesting bits and pieces as well as lot of fascinating books. Dining is all at one table and the food is good; the cooks at Ol Seki, like most of the staff, have been with the Allens for many years. A couple of them have been with them virtually for ever (one 40 years). “No formal training” Sue says, almost apologetically. Thank goodness, the last thing you'd want is for Ol Seki to feel like a hotel.Ol Seki Camp home page
