On their own, the words “Helicopter” and “Safari” have a certain glamour. Combine them and a world of ludicrous possibilities reveals itself.
Of course the whole point of a helicopter is you can land it virtually anywhere, and Tropic Air, based in Nanyuki have whole heartedly embraced this concept. They'll land you on a sand bank in the Ewaso Ngiro River for breakfast and a spot of fishing or fly you a few feet above the snow down the glaciers on the summit of Mt Kenya. Of course a helicopter can go anywhere in Kenya, so you’re clearly not geographically restricted. Laikipia simply has a number of superb lodges, from which it’s logistically very easy to bring in a helicopter for the day and take you off either for a jaunt around Mt Kenya, or off on a day trip fishing, up a mountain etc. Some of the best ones are Loisaba, Ol Malo, Borana and Lewa Wilderness Trails. The Helicopters that Tropic Air has are state of the art Eurocopters with asymmetric tail rotors to reduce noise, so you wont go scaring the game.
